Impact

Making an impact

All year round we reflect on how Nucleo is doing, assessing the impact our work has on members to make sure we’re meeting their needs as best we can. Evaluation is done using a framework created in collaboration with Sound Connections – a charity for music-makers like us, who strive for long-lasting social change.

I am very grateful to everyone in Nucleo for all their hard work to help all of us become better in every way

The young musicians in our Community Programme attend over 70 different schools, and together they speak over 35 different languages at home.

Our most recent enrolment statistics (from September 2024) found that of the 427 young people enrolled in our community programme in North Kensington:

The majority of our students come from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, with 54% living locally to our HQ, in either W9, W10, W11 or W12.

80% are members of Global Majority populations.

We use the term Global Majority since Black, Indigenous and people of colour represent over 80% of the world’s population.

We are really proud that our attendance figures are so high, especially considering that many students are required to attend up to four times per week. Since September 2023, average attendance at all ensembles was over 80%!

According to the Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index, 51% of our students come from neighbourhoods amongst the 20% most deprived in the country.

85% of our students come from the most deprived 50% of the country.

We regularly give students, parents and carers the space to anonymously share their thoughts about Nucleo. Here is a taster of what our young musicians and their families reported:

Evaluation data is collected via the enrolment form, student and parent / carer questionnaires, teacher assessed forms, and lesson observations.

We conduct a separate evaluation of our residential Young Leaders Programme, which takes place every year in the autumn term and welcomes students from across England.

So grateful to have found Nucleo as we would have not been able to give this opportunity to learn music and play an instrument to this level. It is amazing to see the changes in my son with all the music buzzing in his brain.
